W.S.V. Simon Stevin has recently launched its own app via Youmie. The students’ association is English-speaking and the app is therefore entirely in English. Simon Stevin is the students’ association for Mechanical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology and is named after Simon Stevin Brugghelinck, the first ‘mechanical engineer’. The society has more than 1,600 members, around 150 of whom are active in 25 committees, and organises, amongst other things, the annual symposium and drinks at the faculty bar, De Weeghconst.
The almanac clearly lists all the committees together, so that members can see exactly who is active where. During the onboarding process, the society itself determines which personal data is visible to other members by default. These privacy settings are not only useful for members; they also help the society to comply with the GDPR. Youmie builds association apps for English-speaking student societies that currently manage their member data without clear privacy options, featuring settings that allow members to decide for themselves what is visible.
