When the wind is blowing, the minibuses are out and about. G.S.K.V. Released takes its members from Groningen to the kitesurfing spots, from Lauwersoog to Workum and Harlingen. The student kitesurfing club has around 170 members, its own equipment and a proficiency system in which beginners progress to advanced level. Away from the water, there’s a packed calendar of socials and trips, organised by the club’s own committees. Recently, communication has been handled via the club’s own app.
There are three features that members use particularly frequently:
- Noticeboard with custom categories — members created their own ‘Ticket Swap’ category, where they pass festival tickets on to one another.
- Documents in the ‘More’ menu — the General Meeting documents from the past five years are all gathered together in the app, so members don’t have to search for them.
- My profile — members update their own personal details. This keeps the membership database up to date, without a single committee member having to check everything.
For a club that plans its programme on the fly, it helps to have all the information in one place and for members to keep their own details up to date. Youmie builds member apps for student kitesurfing clubs and other student sports clubs that currently store their documents and membership details in separate folders and files, featuring a noticeboard and a ‘More’ menu where everything comes together. For Released, this saves the committee a lot of legwork.
